Hey guys! This week I wanted to talk about a new show released on Netflix called 'Heart Stopper'. Based on the bestselling graphic novel 'Heart Stopper' has recently been released as an 8 episode series on Netflix, and it's received amazing ratings and responses, and fans are already begging for a second season. I just finished watching it and the show was heartfelt, funny, and covered so many issues that teens face in today's society. So here's my honest opinion and review.
Well before I give my full review and analysis I wanted to give a backstory of the general characters and plot. Main character Charlie is a gay teenager at an all male school, who sits next to Nick, a rugby player in class. The show follows their struggles, friendship and so much more.
I'll be honest when I first clicked I was a little unsure. From the covers and trailers I had seen 'Heart Stopper' seemed like your run of the mill cheesy teen romance. But I decided to give it a try anyway due to all the good things I had been hearing.
After watching the first episode I could already kind of see where the plot was heading, and it was interesting because the story is set in England so there were a few cultural differences. As I kept on watching I loved seeing Charlie find himself more and become a completely different person as his connection with Nick changed. I also really liked how the show addressed so many key topics.
For instance throughout the show Nick is struggling to find himself and find his true sexual identity. I really liked how 'Heart Stopper' took so many conflicts that teens face and incorporated them into the plot lines.
Overall the show was amazing, heartfelt, and sends such a great message to teens out in the world regarding LGBTQ+ and mental health. It was definitely one of the best shows I've seen this year. What are your thoughts and opinions? I'd love to hear them.
XOXO
The writer :)
